Navy Pilot, Heidi “Edelweiss” Hemming was in the routine of letting down from 28,000 feet in her fighter while being vectored through a thunderstorm on a ground controlled approach to her base. She was comparatively new to instrument flying and was on the edge of her capability and drenched in sweat as the cell closed in and lightening strikes surrounded each of the aircraft in her flight. In a nontraditional way of thinking with regards to the affect of psychological and social constituents in project management, Heidi was wholly involved in the discipline of planning, organizing, and managing crew resources to fetch in regards to the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives. And this goal included landing the aircraft safely while preserving the United States Navy operational parameters. Yes, she was with her team. The controllers were managing the aircraft in the flight while each pilot was managing their person environments to achieve their goals. The humane elements that guided her included the sets of physical, mental and behavioral properties which interacted to achieve the objective. In managing this landing project, her humane elements included physiological, safety/security, social, and respect issues. The humane constituents importance in this project management environs were critical. If “Edelweiss” set of humane components were not in the right alignment the task would have been compromised, and goals would not have been achieved. This case is based on the principles of humane fundamental interaction (collaboration) management and based on little tasks executed as the circumstance demands and more adaptive than totally preplanned.
