ReviewThis charming board book is beautifully illustrated with colourful and captivating pictures which plainly ooze fun and laughter. The intimate rhyme means children will love acting this song out with parents or siblings, ensuring that your house will be full of the sound of laughter. babyworld.co.uk, March 2005 For children just beginning to comprehend that marks on paper have meaning, this sturdy board book links literacy with other experiences by providing the words and actions for a intimate song. The funny verses are included too(‘If you see a crocodile, don’t forget to scream!’), together with lovable and childlike pictures of babies from a range of ethnic groups acting out the song together. And on the outside back cover is the music – utile for adult accompanists, but also a good introduction for children to the idea that there is more than one set of written symbols in the world. Under Five 20040301 These are everlastingly frequent and pleasurable action nursery rhyme, and they have been given a fun treatment in these new baby board books by Annie Kubler. Featuring lovable and childlike happy babies, these books are sure to appeal to the beneath threes. SPPA Learning Through Play 20040601 “Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream,” Come on, you know the words, “merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream.” But did you recognise there were more words? “Rock, rock, rock your boat, gently down the stream. If you see a crocodile, don’t forget to scream!” “Row, row, row your boat, gently to the shore. If you see a lion, don’t forget to roar!” I have to confess that my cognition for this song only extended to the original two lines and I was delighted to find that there was more of it. Still, even six lines of a song doesn’t seem much with which to fill a book, yet Annie Kubler’s illustrations turn this simple song into a outstanding action book for babies and toddlers. My four month old daughter sits in with the older children for story time but this is the primary real baby book I’ve read to her (shame on me). She was chuckling with laughter at the bright colours as we rowed and rocked along and it is proof, if any were needed, that even the youngest of babies may get great stimulation and enjoyment out of the right books. So that’s another ten minutes to be added to our story time each day. Oh, and for parents, the tune and the words are printed on the back of each book so you’ve no pardon for not singing along. Cork Evening Echo 20040201

We have had this book for about a month at my house, and my 10-1/2 month old baby and a good friend who is about 22 months old both enjoy this book a lot.

My son took to ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR BOAT immediately. It is a bigger than average board book, about 8 inches by 8 inches, but not too big for him to pull the book into his lap and comfortably page through. The colors are bright, and the babies that Annie Kubler draws are charming.

The words are pretty simple. It consists of three verses of the old song.

I love that ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR BOAT shows children singing the song and moving to it. The first time I read this to our 22 month old friend, he was immediately pulled in when I started using the movements that you see in the pictures. He liked it so much that he asked me to read it again (well, sing it again) about ten times.

My 10 month old son loves it so much that is is the first book he asks for by name. “Rowrowrow!”

This book has inspired several boat-related games with our two babies. We are loving it!

Nesbitt
I bought this book for my son when he was about 12 months old. It immediately became his favorite book…he loved for me to read/sing it to him before bedtime. He’s now 20 months old and still has me singing it to him almost everyday. He loves to flip the pages with me and study the drawings of the babies. The art work is absolutely wonderful. He usually only goes for books with real life pictures, but this one is an exception. When I first picked up this book I thought, “Doesn’t this song only have 2 verses…it might get old real quick.” But I was pleasantly surprised to see there was much more to it…we love sharing the new verses to this old favorite with other kids…they love it too!

15 of 16 people found the following review helpful.
great fun to read aloud
By mamasabria
This book is so simple, yet so perfectly done. It has been a favorite of both my son and my niece from about 12 months on (he’s now 19 months and still loves this book). It’s almost impossible to “read” this book without breaking into jovial song — “Rock, Rock, Rock your boat, Gently down the stream, If you see a crocodile, Don’t forget to scream!” (there’s one more verse but I won’t give it away) The book is larger than most of our other board books and has wonderful illustrations of happy babies acting out the lyrics.

I have found that my son pays attention and enjoys having books read to him most when the books are rhymes or songs (otherwise he prefers pointing out things he knows by name in the illustrations, but doesn’t care so much to hear the story). This book has been a real winner in our house. I highly recommend it as a first birthday gift to any baby whose parents like to sing to him/her.

In “The Making of a Miniature Firearm,” George W. Jones has assembled a series of photographs along with captions illustrating his craft as a miniature model artesian, a talent of extraordinary skill, forbearance and eyesight! His book, terse in words but revealing a wealth of mental stimulation seeing each of the model photographs, produces a real “Wow” factor. It unfolds like a National Geographic particular demonstration introducing the reader to the complexity of detail necessary to make these museum quality miniature replicas.

George W. Jones has focalized this book on fundamentally two models designed by Samuel Colt in the 19th century. There is a famous quote, “God may have devised man, but Sam Colt made them equal!” I’d say to that, “Sam Colt may have formulated perfection in his gun designs, but it took George Jones to shrink them to the size of a dime!” By this I am referencing the use of a dime in most of the photographs illustrating the scale of the models. (It would have been much having little impact for George to make a dime the size of a dinner plate than guns as little as he has!)

The miniature firearms also include other models, such as the Winchester-Shuetzen rifle, and most all are housed in miniature cases which include the accessaries normally necessitated to help the gun, such as a gun-powder vessel, a bullet mold and press, an oil may and other items. Even the hinges of the case are built to scale, with – get this – a tiny key that unlocks a tiny lock on the case. Unbelievable! Mind you these 1/6th and 1/8th scale models are not merely molded, but assembled with the inner workings of hammer springs, barrel assemblies, and all of the constituents in fantastic detail.

“The Making of a Miniature Firearm” is a hardcover, coffee-table quality photo book suitable for a gift to any firearm enthusiast, model maker, or frankly just regarding anyone. George W. Jones lists his other works and galore of his industry accolades including a story regarding James Cameron while working on the movie Titanic, and it has a Forward written by the late Ralph Bradshaw White, in 2007. As the work of Mr. Jones is in private collections and museums all around the country, a trip to visit each of the internet sites would be pricey and time consuming, the better substitute is to buy this book and relax in ease while pondering the exquisite detail as a witness to his art.
